Injury Prevention Plus sponsors events and staff members take an active role in the community, focusing on organisations whose mission is to support health and wellness.
Indigenous Health
For seven years, Injury Prevention Plus’ Principal Consultant Michelle Strother has tutored Indigenous students at the School of Indigenous Studies, University of Western Australia (2005-2012). She was also a guest lecturer at Curtin University and University Notre Dame (Physiotherapy Schools) for Indigenous Health Issues from 2010 till 2013. Within the Australian Physiotherapy Association, she has given lectures on Indigenous Health, specifically in the Gerontology Special Interest Group (2013).
Michelle is of Aboriginal decent. Her family is of Nyoongar origin and as such she feels that she is uniquely placed within the community to be a role model to aspiring allied health care professionals and women within the industrial sector.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.
Injury Prevention Plus’ Head of Exercise Physiology Anthony Walter is an active member of the JDRF Western Australia State Leadership Group. As a participant and Life Member of the JDRF 'Ride to Cure Diabetes', Anthony has fundraised over $150,000 for JDRF since 2004. Injury Prevention Plus is proud to have supported the JDRF Gala Ball 2015 held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Huntington’s WA
HWA was formed specifically to improve the quality of life for people with Huntington's Disease, their families and carers in Western Australia.
Injury Prevention Plus sponsored the National Huntington’s Conference Embracing Opportunities Conference held in Perth in September 2014. Click here to read more. Furthermore, Anthony volunteered for 12 months to implement exercise rehabilitation programs in the community for people suffering from neuromuscular disease.
Youth Focus
Youth Focus is an independent West Australian not-for-profit working to raise awareness of youth suicide, depression and self harm.
Anthony was ambassador for the Hawaiian Ride for Youth and participated in the 700km ride from Albany to Perth.
WA Police Legacy
WA Police Legacy is the joint initiative of the Western Australian Police Union of Workers and the Western Australia Police.
Injury Prevention Plus was a formal sponsor of the regional Police Legacy charity event “Bloody-Slow Cup”.
University of Notre Dame
Contribution to PhD study by Lymphoedema Physiotherapist Linda Khong: Injury Prevention Plus’ Principal Consultant Michelle is facilitator and coordinator of pilot data collection of World Café Forum. (2014 - ongoing)
University of Western Australia, Edit Cowan University, Murdoch University
Professional/clinical supervision of Exercise Science students: Injury Prevention Plus supports graduates of Exercise Rehabilitation to achieve their university requirements. Once they graduate, Injury Prevention Plus staff often remain involved by acting as mentors. (2013 - ongoing)
University of Western Australia Hockey Club
Senior men’s team coach: Injury Prevention Plus’ Head of Exercise Physiology Anthony Walter volunteers as the hockey coach since 2014.
